Life Science Tennessee's monthly podcast on the state of the life science industry in Tennessee.
Nashville has healthcare, Memphis has bio-agriculture and medical devices, Chattanooga has tech, Knoxville has biofuels and biotech. Or at least that’s how the thinking usually goes. The reality of biotechnology and the life sciences in the mid-south is far more complex. It’s also very exciting. Tennessee, and Nashville in particular, has long been known as the healthcare capital of the world. What most people outside our local community don’t realize is that the life science industry is a growing part of the state economy.
It starts with outstanding academic biomedical research and technology transfer from institutions like Vanderbilt, University of Tennessee, Middle Tennessee State University, and ETSU. From there, accelerators, incubators and economic development groups like Jumpstart Foundry, ZeroTo510, Memphis Bioworks and LaunchTN are helping nascent biotech and healthcare IT companies move out of academia. Funding from venture capital firms is growing, as is the number of scientists and clinicians finding the Mid-South to be the perfect place to become an entrepreneur.
With all that going on, Life Science Tennessee and produced by Filament Life Science Communications have partnered to bring you news and education from leaders in the life sciences industry throughout Tennessee. We cover everything from new and exciting companies, biotech careers, resources for life science entrepreneurs, coverage of relevant events throughout the Southeast, and even education on topics like intellectual property, financing, venture capital, marketing, communications, hiring, and more.
This podcast is the premier source of information from and about the dynamic life sciences industry in the state that Kiplinger and Entrepreneur Magazine ranked as one of the best to start a business.
